St. James and the Boat of Stone

I am not sure I can successfully retell the story of how St. James head or body or spirit arrived in Santiago de Compostela but it is safe to say there is a good amount of industry around that lore. One version of the story is that St. James’ body arrived in a boat made of stone. I’ve never traveled in a stone boat. Have you? I hear it’s a cheap ticket.
The church built on his remains is the end destination for many pilgrims and travelers and is a remarkable sight to behold.
The town around the church is the quaint cobble stone maze that we think of when we want to paint a picture of an old Spanish town. We arrived to the square in the morning and spent three hours exploring. After a break at the hotel we took a small trip to see a view of the city from a hill top. Then a guided tour of the church followed by our favorite activity: singing.
When we tour we sing, wherever we can. Stop drop and sing I say. So that is what we do and that is what we did at the steps of the cathedral. It rarely fails to gather a crowd. Our local guide was actually a little concerned that we may draw too large a crowd if we kept singing so we left it to three songs. It is always a highlight for me and I hope it is for our travelers.
