There is nothing like the taste of shave ice on a warm and humid Maui vacay day. If you have not had the chance to taste the rainbow colored coldness don’t fret. It’s not going anywhere.
There is no shave ice in Europe or not that I have seen. (That’s one for the USA!). But there is gelato. The best gelato is in Italy of course, hands down no arguments, thank you. But the most gelato seems to be in the town of Zadar.
The small, ancient seaside town of Zadar is a magical little spot. Little shops, lots of cafes, Roman ruins, and gelato. And more gelato.
After we received a standing ovation for our performance in the main church of Zadar, we stepped out into the warm night air where we had time to celebrate with a scoop or two of what seems to be Zadar’s biggest export.
Outside of the church there are no less than four gelato shops. Of which I had already sampled two earlier in the day. (I am no Rick Steves but I was not a fan of Bobs Gelato).
It was a well earned scoop. The choir was fantastic and the audience received us very warmly. I am most grateful to the man who approached after the concert to say that the only issue was that the concert was too short.
We leave Zadar today full of gratitude and gelato. On to Split!
